Quest HDMI Link
Using a Quest headset as a large 2D display for devices with video output.
Meta’s HDMI Link app allows a Quest headset to display video from compatible capture equipment. It can be useful with consoles, computers, phones, ROG Ally and other devices that provide video output.
What I use
Connecting devices with an HDMI port
For an Xbox, PlayStation, PC, Fire TV stick or another device with HDMI output, the simplest option is the Hagibis USB 3.0 Video Capture cable with PD port. It combines the capture card, USB-C connection and power-delivery input in one cable, so it can charge the Quest while it is receiving video.
I also made a tutorial and explanation for this setup. If you want to connect a device with a male HDMI connector—such as a Fire TV stick—add an HDMI female-to-female adapter.
Connecting USB-C video devices and charging everything
For a phone, ROG Ally, MacBook or another USB-C video source, use the Hagibis USB 3.0 60 Hz capture card with PD port together with the Hagibis 4K@60Hz HDMI-to-USB-C cable with PD port. I explain this arrangement in this video.
You may also need a short 90-degree USB extension cable. Options include Taibeyor, Orico, or the no-name alternatives 01 and 02.
Watching streaming services in high quality
I use a Fire TV Stick 4K connected to the capture equipment. It is small, light and needs very little power, which makes it a practical source for a Quest setup. Other TV sticks should also work, but Full HD models are often considerably slower.
HDMI cable
For a low-cost HDMI 2.1 cable, the Ugreen 8K version is the one listed in the source guide. It is suitable for the 4K/120 Hz equipment in this setup.
